Does the Chief Justice Decide or Vote?
The Chief Justice alone does not decide. It takes four votes from members of the court to decide to take up a case. The vast majority of cases are taken up when someone files, a party files something called a writ of certiorari. Only a tiny number of petitions for certiorari are granted. Usually ends up being between 60-70 cases a year and the Chief Justice alone doesn't decide.
