The Great Migration of the Saxons to Britain

By the year 457, Meravich's son, Childrich, was in place as a Frankish king. He led his Franks in battle against the Visigoths around the year 463. This was part of that larger effort to force the Goths out of Gaul and to push them down into Spain. And shortly after the battles against the Goths, Childrich turned his attention to the neighboring Saxons who were still living on the continent. But with Gaul blocked by Childrich and the Franks, the Saxons had to focus on expansion by sea to Britain.
