Newton thought that he had developed a full description of the universe without any divine intervention. But Laplace says all events, even those which on account of their insignificance do not seem to follow the great laws of nature are a result of it. And this is going to be relevant, ultimately, for why we don't anymore, why we've lost the sense of human choice in action.
