The Role of Imaginary Companions in Development

I don't think it's at all anything to worry about. As I say, it seems to be associated with some at least positive developmental outcomes. It can be useful in acquiring some social skills, sort of, you know, learning how to interact with others and so on. So very few people had asked the question of whether adults have imaginary companions. Now a study we did just a couple of years ago, we found, I think it was something like 7%.
