The number of people is 200 trillion. It's more like 200 billion on this hypothesis. Nothing can be done if you are one of the first 200 billion people to prevent the end of humanity. Why we're also capping the maximum number of peple at 200 we don't know. Optimists don't argue for slowing down progress. It's the pessimists like bostrum that do. And it could very well be a self-fulfilling prophecy if they succeed. We should want to avoid it. And to do that, we need to make faster progress. That requires far more optimism. Thanks for bearing with me for all these many hours for chapter nine, optimism.
