The Rise and Fall of Drag Performances

On March 2nd, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed SB3 into law. The law classifies drag queens or as the legislation puts it, male and female impersonators, as adult cabaret performers. It would have charged violators of the law with a misdemeanor or a felony for a repeat offense punishable by up to six years in jail. In late May, Montana became the first state to specifically ban drag performers from doing storytime events for kids at public schools and libraries. And a handful of other Republican-led states are considering similar legislation as we speak.
