Exploring Disappointment and God's Faithfulness in Malachi
This chapter explores the historical backdrop of the book of Malachi, focusing on the challenges faced by the Jewish community after their return from exile. It highlights their struggles with disappointment and skepticism towards God's promises, while ultimately emphasizing the importance of gratitude for God's unwavering faithfulness.
Disappointment is dangerous when it turns into cynicism. That’s the backdrop of Malachi—Israel’s temple is rebuilt, the Torah is read, the priests are serving, and yet the people are hollow. There’s no Messiah, no visible glory, no outpouring of God’s Spirit… and so the people go through the motions, offering scraps to God and excusing spiritual compromise. In this episode, we unpack three disputes: over God’s love, corrupted worship, and covenant unfaithfulness. Malachi doesn’t just call out bad behavior—he confronts the heart behind it.

• Israel had returned physically from exile—but not fully spiritually
