A lot of the architectural security of cars relies on this gateway module, which separates things that talk to the internet from things that control the steering. Tesla is literally the only one who has any research on it because that's who keen team likes to pick on. There were some attacks early on, two years in a row, they were able to successfully bypass this gateway module and then control things like the brakes.
