The Impact of Small States on International Politics

The Baltic states are pushing within NATO or in their bilateral relations with the UK and with the US for much stronger forward-defense positions vis-à-vis Russia. Cuba has leveraged its strong revolutionary government to exercise influence that one would not have expected for a state of Cuba's size. Panama did some really innovative things like pressing for UN Security Council meeting held in Panama, where it went on to embarrass the U.S. In Latin America, they were able to reshape the US position in ways that eventually would lead to the canal being returned to Panama.
