One Point Five Degrees?

The goal is to not surpass warming of one point five degre s celsius. But the paris agreement sets its target significantly higher, at two degrees. Why is one point five degrees important? What are the politics of all these various other higher targets? And where are we at in terms of potential meeting one point five?
