The Culture of the Preservation of Knowledge
In ancient indias, there was a very different means of transmission and record keeping. Students were trained according to what is known as mucamucum - basically imeens face to face. They would memorize an entire text then go through it again line by line in order to figure out its meaning. And this is all happening orally, for the most partand in the olden days. It really fits well for what a this practice of face to face pedagogy and education and then clinical treatment of no embodies or entails. I love that phrase 'textis on the tongue'
