The Importance of Opium Poppies in Afghanistan

When the Taliban first came to power, they allowed it. They also texted it like other crops. But in 2000, they issued a decree saying that cultivating opium poppies is banned. The problem was that there was a lot of poverty. Poverty increased, especially farmers who cultivated other crops. Some farmers had to sell their land and leave Afghanistan altogether.
