The Macronians and the Greeks

Xenophon met a troop of macronians who were armed with wicker shields and lances. Xenophon asked them why they are arrayed against us and want to be our enemies. And they replied, because you are coming against our land. They gave the Greeks a barbarian lance and the Greeks gave them a Greek lance for the macronians declared that these were pledges. Both sides called the gods to witness.
