The Importance of Cities

The laws about the king and the Torah are in accommodation because God obviously didn't really want them to have a king. So they're clearly not an ideal, it's a band-aid. It's a triage man. But as you go on, cities are, it's good to preserve life. That's like God. It's good to create a refuge where new life can generate. And so now cities, though non-ideal, become a potential way to do that. Now the question is not going to be whether we have cities or not but what are we going to do with the cities that we have?
