There is mounting evidence that corporate profit margins have contributed in some way to the recent inflation. A lay-all brainard, who's a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, has observed rising profit margins well in advance of any rising costs. We just don't know a lot about how corporate pricing decisions happen and we don't know about profit margins on particular products. The answer is that we should have much more of a public spotlight on these potentially very important decisions about pricing and profit.
