The Role of the Vagus Nerve in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is caused by the body's misfiring immune system mistakenly inflaming the joints. The vagus nerve plays a very big role in dialing down that inflammation. Mark Genevieve from Stanford University used an electronic device to stimulate the vagus and found it could help treat autoimmune conditions. Karen Ann McVay of Brain Body Institute at McMaster University, Canada has discovered microbes inside your gut also send messages to the brain via the vagus nerve.
