I think when we have a habit of feeling an intense amount of pain inside, we go what I'm calling external. We start focusing on things outside of ourselves for any means of relief or joy. And in my case, I had PTSD and I didn't know that I had PTSD. Another source of this state of being is not related to having specific traumas would be a lot of little experiences that make it unsafe to be in your body. For example, if you had a parent who made you feel invisible, who ignored your suffering,. Maybe you had a parents who put themselves first and neglected you for a large portion of your childhood.
