In the Iliad, Achilles is offered a long life but rejects it in favor of heroism. And then Odysseus visits Achilles and Achilles appears to regret his decision down in Hades. Melanchthon doesn't seem to think that this objection is worth a lot of his time. He says that Homer intended to celebrate the tenant of the immortality of the soul. But he's a Platonist of Antlalette. You can see how that would infibrill men.
