Mark 834: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Jesus says in the verse immediately afterwards that if you try to save your life, we'll lose it. But if you lose your life for the sake of the gospel, you will save it. It's saying actually there's a spiritual orientation that is off for every single one of us. There's something in ourself as we currently experience it that needs to be denied in order for us to have real life.
