I remember as Secretary of State being in St. Petersburg, probably in 2011 or 12, having very vigorous arguments with Sergei Lavrov and others who at that time were toggling between Medvedev and Putin. And how Putin was driving this anti-LGBTQ agenda, it was in cooperation with the Russian Orthodox Church. So you had Putin kind of leading that charge and wrapping himself in so far as he could in a kind of white man Christian mantle. I think Ann is absolutely right. It's some of the best writing out there about what's happening inside societies"
