In a shocker in the opening statement, the defense tells us exactly how Kaylee died. They said Kaylee had drowned in the middle of the night when she slipped through the sliding glass door and climbed into the pool using the ladder that had been left down the night before. And this was all to prevent Casey from getting into trouble for child neglect. It was to prevent her mother from never forgiving her again. All of the lies were meant to cover up Kaylee's death, but it wasn't accidental death. Now why would Casey go along with this? Well, it's because George had abused Casey her whole life in silence about what her father was doing is her way of life.
