A passive protagonist is a yellow flag that your book may actually have a passive agonist. Readers prefer victims who overcome to heroes who succumb. A story about a princess sitting around waiting to be rescued is boring. An ogre trying to rescue her is interesting. Writing active sentences can force you to write more active characters.
