It's Not the 1990s That Refutes That
There had been wonderful kind of existentialist metaphysics among the dissidents and philosophers in the 80s and 90s or 70s and 80s especially after 1968. That kind of disappeared in the 90s because everybody was celebrating the end of history as Francis Foggiama called it, he says. There was a faith that even if it were however rough it might be there were going to be some bumps in the road but now we knew where the road was going. The coming of capitalism came as a kind of what in American history we've called robber baron capitalism. It left open the possibility of former communist apparatics very quickly transitioning into gangster style.
