The Empire State Building stands at the southwest corner of 34th Street and 5th Avenue. Today, we don't really think of that as being part of the neighborhood of Murray Hill. One of the first wealthy families to push north of Madison Square into this rural hinterland known as Murray Hill were actually some of the asters.
