The power of quantum mechanics is something that's always fascinating because it defies what one thinks about classically and you wouldn't expect something to have superconducting properties. Excitons in principle could also be condensed into a global quantum state, but exciton condensates were harder to realize. In the last few years, since 2017, they've been able to prepare them in the laboratory using strong magnetic fields or creative chemistry.
