Eliza's Manumission

Elizabeth Van Luu was a slave owner in Richmond, Virginia. After her husband's death, she began to liquidate his assets and sell off some of the slaves that were left behind. She also hired out people who worked for her as temporary servants. Some of those workers went on to buy their own freedom after they had been freed from slavery.
