All television at that time were series, either comedies or dramas. Everything was present day in those series would go on for seven years. Why cut a story off just as audience are gtting to know and like the characters? And then there were the risks of stand alone stories with a beginning, middle and end. So when barry pitched the idea of a movie of the week, a movie made specifically for t v, his colleagues balked. It just wasn't television. Or so they thought.
