In your latest book, you're talking a little bit about why you think we have free will. You say that the nervous system allows multiple signals to be simultaneously parsed and processed. Emotions help us sort out when some of these multiple sub systems arrive at a draw - so to speak. Some people are driven by emotions more in short term than others. And sometimes we don't even know what those emotions are until it's too late.

Kevin Mitchell is an author and an Associate Professor of Genetics and Neuroscience at Trinity College Dublin. His research is aimed at understanding the genetic program specifying the wiring of the brain and its relevance to variation in human faculties. Kevin is also the author of the science blog, Wiring the Brain, and a number of books and publications.
