The Importance of Family Therapy in Psychotherapy

When I was in training the major psychiatric mode was still either psychoanalytic or, or a therapy that was was informed by a psychoanalysis. Freud himself was smart enough to say you should never do psychoanalysis with someone who's psychotic. Even when it works it's an enormous commitment of time and money. You can also see how the family operates and see if you can understand how they may be making it worse or how they can be encouraging things to stay stuck.
