The Importance of Compressing Time
The whole opening of the movie is quite frankly very long. This is the longest opening of any, I think it's even longer than any of the Bond movies. The other thing is not starting the movie on Ethan Hunt as well. We're just sort of sowing the seeds of it and explaining that it's going to be doing something much bigger in the second film. That was a side effect of that editorial discovery.
