The Highest Status in the Community

Are there distinct family units in the community? If so, what family structures are common? I don't even know how to begin answering that second one. The people who have the highest status in the community right now are the sort of resource collectors. There's the big dog society. In fact, what you have to do to gain entry into that is be chosen or else everybody's going to go out and collect stuff.
