The title of our talk is what Greek myths can teach us about events beyond control. I think maybe we should sort of try and dive into that question a little bit more. Most children's myth books are trying to use the myths to convey a very clear message. But it's not long before we grow up and we find out that's not how life works. We don't finish George Eliot's middle march or Perkegan's small things like these with absolute explanations about why bad things happen. Instead we leave them as tools to use to think about stuff.
