The Case of Jacobson's Vaccination
Smallpox was an extremely deadly disease that historically had killed about a quarter to a third of the people who became infected with it. 300 million people worldwide died from smallpox in the 20th century alone. People had serious doubts that vaccines worked. There was really significant resistance at the time, not just from parents as you have today but also working class people.
