Since the start of Mexico's offensive on cartels, more than 125 journalists have died. In 2022, President Andres Manuel Lopez Ovarador, aka Amlo, threatened members of the Supreme Court. According to the Economist Democracy Index report, Mexico is now considered a hybrid regime.
