In the novel, you have access to the private inner workings of the actual group. Lewis does show a little bit of the dynamic in the novel. Mainly through Marx articles that he's writing. It shows you the propaganda, public facing, nice. But then as the novel progresses, and toward the end, no, they don't know what's going on. They're deceived people. The road to hell is is paved with good intentions. There aren't really nefarious people. They are are not.
