Bank deposit rates in a rising rate environment go up like a feather. In an interest rate cutting environment where the Fed is easing policy, they sink like a stone. Banks are over deposited and as those deposits migrate into higher yielding products, banks start to compete more aggressively with each other. The overall deposit beta for the cycle is somewhere around 30 to 40% of the feds rate rates.
