The Secular Argument for Rights

Alex Upston: I think that there's a totally secular case for rights. He says the founding fathers were religious, and they were religious or not to differing degrees. But if you look at their study of human beings, it wasn't that they were religious. The idea of rights really emerged and became a political thing in the era of the founding fathers. And he doesn't accept the idea that being secular means being a collective.
