The US and Russia's Response to the Invasion of Ukraine
After Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, the US and many other countries responded with a lot of sanctions. And as a result of these restrictions, a lot of Western tech companies suspended all shipments to Russia. Synasis, which is the Belarusian facial recognition company I mentioned, whose algorithm is used in Moscow was actually already sanctioned by the EU and the UK before the war. That's because it's algorithm had been used previously against protesters and opposition activists and Belarus. But then after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the US also sanctioned Synasis for how its technology has been used against protesters, both in Belarus and in Russia.
