Do You Want to Discipline Your Passions?
Stoicism says disciplining your passions leads to happiness. Do we find echoes of that in our own christian spiritual masters? The emotions are good, but like all created things, they can't be absolutized. When reason determines here's the proper end, then i need to order my passions toward the attainment of that end. Be passionate about whatever your cause happens to be, if it's a good one. But if your passions are militating against the good, youve got to discipline them.
