The Stagnation of Science

I've seen a lot of hand ringing about the stagnation of science and how many more research hours it takes to get any sort of progress in most fields. Do you think some of that makes me that we've picked some of the low hanging fruit like evolution was a lot easier to figure out than the Higgs boson?
