Episode 27 – What Are Virtues and Why Do We Need Them? | Fr. Michael Sherwin, O.P.
Aquinas 101 - Course 2: Introduction to Thomistic Philosophy
Introduction
A virtue most generally conceived is a perfection of a power. So why do we need them? He also already, in Article one, says well because the powers are general. They're ordered to a general level of action, but action is specific. We need something that will dispose us not to act in general, no one acts in general, but to act here and now, hick at nuke. Something that disposes us to act well to do the good act concretely.
