The Life of Pleasure

The goal of epicurus' philosophy is this life of pleasure, conceived as freedom from care. But you can only attain that if you understand the nature of things and how to obtain it. Do hedonic calculus: weigh up pleasures and pains in your own life; avoid a short term good ar because we think it would bring us a greater long term pain. Thevirtues are not good in themselves but they're good as means to the life of tranquillity - prudence, self control, courage.
