The Effects of Low Oxygen on Neuronal Energy Generation
Alzheimer's disease is not caused by amyloid plaques. The biggest factor hinges around metabolism and what the brain has to do to keep up energy. Your brain uses 20% of your body's energy, that's 2% of its biomass. As you get older, your ability to perfuse oxygen in your brain through your blood vessels goes down. And as that happens, certain regions of the brain will become lower in oxygen.
