The Future of the Internet

Google has demonstrated a version of their search engine that uses generative text. A lot of people are just going to see the AI written answer, read it, and move on. What could happen to original reporting if this happens? You could picture a future of the internet where most of the surviving publications are producing a lot of AI written content because it's cheaper.
