Is Caffine a Pesticide?
Like a lot of drugs that plants produce, caffine begins its as a pesticide. It kills insects at high doses and also stops other plants from germinating near by. But the cleverness of plants is such that some have re purposed this pesticide as an attractant. bees really like kaffine, and they will go preferentially to flowers that offer them cafine. We don't know if they get a buzz um, but they do for it. And it does for them what it does for us, it improves their memory.
