Introduction
In just one episode we're going to look at Halbritton 3rd between the 3rd and 5th centuries, a rated progress I warn you not to expect forever. It's probably best to start right back at the beginning with the Rome of the 2nd century, albeit remarkably briefly. The province of Britannia lay at the western edge of the Roman Empire but despite that was considered rich by Tacitus writing in the 1st century. In lowland Britain three colonial towns were established by the settlement of retired soldiers at Colchester in the east, Gloucester in the southwest and in Lincoln in the northeast.
