The Importance of Objectification in Literature
Even the strong women in Mr. Kandera's books tended to be objectified, Nolan says. He thinks that looking at literature and looking at characters as manifestations of the thoughts of the writer is one of the cheapest things. And we assume that this is the writer's unvarnished personal opinion. That might be the case. But I really resent the fact that in an obituary about Milan Conderas, there was a critic who said he didn't write well-rounded female characters.
