The Origins of Atomic Spectra
In 1913 a physicist by the name of Bohr developed a new atomic model. This is this is atom 3.0 by incorporating Planck's discrete energies and Einstein's photons so Planck's and Einstein's quantization theories into Rutherford's solar system model of the atom. Each element had its own unique emission spectrum which was called to identify which element it was that was being burned or excited by electricity or whatever it was.
