The Characteristics of the Normans
Historians are very engaged with looking at the impact the Normans made. But I find myself coming back at the end of writing the book to thinking well actually set aside the great men theory of history but these these people really were exceptional. They weren't as successful as we might think their careers often ended badly William the conquerors later years ended badly bermans careers ended in disaster and so on. You have to take everything that the medieval writers say with a pinch of salt because they tend to play up the, you know, larger than life aspects of their heroes. These men did have charisma. Yes, they had charisma and you had to have charisma as a warrior you had to persuade
