How to Prepare for a Panel Discussion

I always feel con when I go to a conference thinking that I'm going to see a speaker. And then there's a panel discussion or even if it's an interview one to one because the burden of preparation moves from the speaker to the facilitator. Often I feel like you're asking them level one questions when they have level 10 ideas. If you ask me to prepare a keynote, I'm thinking long and hard of what I want to say.
